Harissa “Baked’ Beans

We love including beans in an all-American barbecue spread. This easy recipe is our take on classic baked beans, made with our Harissa BBQ Sauce for that traditional sweet-ish flavor. For a less-sweet version, the dish will also work fantastically with our Signature Harissa use the same quantity as the BBQ sauce.

Serves 4-6

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 small yellow onion, finely chopped

1 garlic clove, minced

2 cans (each 15 ounces) pinto beans

½ cup tomato passata, tomato puree or tomato paste

½ cup water

½ cup New York Shuk Harissa BBQ Sauce

Salt

In a large sauté pan over medium-high heat, warm the olive oil. Add the onion and cook, stirring occasionally, until lightly golden and translucent, 5-10 minutes. Stir in the garlic and cook until fragrant, about 2 minutes.

Add the beans, tomato passata, water and Harissa BBQ sauce and stir to combine. Increase the heat to high and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and cook, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens, about 30 minutes. Taste and adjust the seasoning with salt.
